Monday 29th January 2018 saw the launch of the School Streets scheme in the roads around Gayhurst school. We fully support this council-run scheme that aims to keep the roads around our school safe from traffic. On the Monday of the launch of the scheme, we celebrated walking and cycling to school by welcoming pupils through the gate on a red carpet. Councillor Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Transport and Parks attended the launch and a local press photographer was at hand to act as the paparazzi!
After school, Play Streets helped to set up Gayhurst Road as a space to play games. We enjoyed flapjacks made by our school kitchen while local cycling proficiency company, Stars n' Stripes, set up some of their equipment and allowed children to cycle through their obstacle course. Please remember that Gayhurst Road, from the corner of Appleby Road and London Fields West Side from Richmond Road will be closed from 8:30am - 9:15am and 3:15pm - 4pm. Traffic cameras have been installed by the council and they will be fining drivers who use these roads at these times. More information about the School Streets scheme can be found in the Contact Us section of our website, on the School Streets page on the left of the How To Find Us page.
